1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using GenotypeNet ("the Service"), a decentralized genomic variant calling network built on Bittensor, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service. These terms apply to all users, including miners, validators, and dashboard viewers.

2. Description of Service

GenotypeNet is a decentralized subnet on the Bittensor network that incentivizes accurate genomic variant calling. The Service includes:

  • A validator system that creates variant calling tasks from genomic data
  • A miner network that processes genomic data and produces VCF files
  • A scoring system based on hap.py benchmark metrics (F1, precision, recall)
  • A dashboard for monitoring network statistics and miner performance
  • Token emissions distributed based on validated performance

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use this Service. By using GenotypeNet, you represent and warrant that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. Participation as a miner or validator requires technical knowledge of genomic variant calling, Bittensor network operations, and compliance with applicable laws in your jurisdiction.

4. User Responsibilities

For Miners:

  • Provide accurate and honest variant calling results
  • Do not attempt to game the scoring system through fraudulent submissions
  • Maintain secure and reliable compute infrastructure
  • Comply with all applicable genomic data handling regulations

For Validators:

  • Operate validators in good faith and evaluate miners fairly
  • Ensure proper handling and security of genomic reference data
  • Set weights based on genuine performance metrics
  • Maintain stake requirements as defined by the Bittensor network

5. Prohibited Activities

Users are prohibited from:

  • Submitting fabricated or plagiarized variant calling results
  • Attempting to manipulate the scoring or emissions system
  • Operating Sybil attacks or multiple identities to gain unfair advantage
  • Interfering with network operations or other participants
  • Using the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Mishandling or misusing genomic data in violation of applicable regulations
  • Reverse engineering or attempting to extract proprietary algorithms

6. Intellectual Property

GenotypeNet software is provided under open-source licenses as specified in the project repositories. The GenotypeNet name, logo, and branding are proprietary. Miners retain ownership of their variant calling implementations, subject to any licenses of underlying tools (such as GATK, DeepVariant, etc.). The network does not claim ownership of VCF outputs produced by miners.

7. Token Emissions and Payments

TAO token emissions are distributed by the Bittensor network based on weights set by validators. GenotypeNet does not guarantee any specific level of emissions or returns. Token values fluctuate and participation involves financial risk. Users are responsible for understanding and complying with tax obligations in their jurisdiction. The scoring algorithm may be updated, which could affect emission distributions.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Accuracy of network statistics or scoring calculations
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Fitness for any particular purpose
  • Security of the network or participants' systems

Genomic analysis results from this network should not be used for clinical diagnosis or medical decision-making without independent verification by qualified professionals.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GENOTYPENET AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR TOKENS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT OF EMISSIONS RECEIVED BY YOU IN THE 30 DAYS PRIOR TO THE CLAIM.

10. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. For significant changes, we will attempt to provide notice through the dashboard or community channels.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Service. Provisions regarding intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability survive termination.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the primary operators are located, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration.
